Pop has become a very popular 3-letter word in kids vocabulary. It is a very sugary drink which comes in cans or plastic bottles. What many people don’t know is how much sugar is inside of one can of pop.

See that 354 mL of liquid? Well it’s not as much liquid as you think. This single can of pop contains 48 grams of sugar, 48 grams! It practically fills up 1/3 of the can.
Pop also has a few minor side effects. As humans, we need calcium correct? Well milk now has to compete with the wonderufl taste of pop, especially top brands like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Sprite, and others. Calcium is very important for building strong bones, without it our bones will be very thin and week. Also could lead to future bone problems. Also the acid in pop wears down the enamel on teeth, causing decay. Pop causes a lot of childhood obesity, which could lead to social problems and athletic struggling.
Pop is the number 1 source of sugar in the diet, also you take in approximately 200 more calories each day by drinking one can a day! Think of how much sugar is in a larger bottle!

First of all I would like to admit to being a heavy pop drinker. Probably 1-2 cans a day. This really opened my eyes to what I am consuming and am definately changing my pop diet

I am not too big on pop, but this definately made me know not to get into it much either. I drink it ocasionally and it is nice once in a while, maybe a few times a week. Great post

I love pop, though I mostly mix it with my vodka. Though the 2 litre bottle of Fanta Fruit Twist that I have next to me has a lot of sugar in it. I know that because its a fruity fizzy drink also that it’s sweet and also when it gets spilt it goes sticky if left alone.
The bottle states it has 33.9g of sugar per 250ml, so that’s 271.2g of sugar in the whole of that bottle! That is mad and bad!

I want to share some information about health properties of POP i.e. soft drinks with you .
In the beginning drinking of either natural or artificial mineral water was considered a healthy practice. The American pharmacists selling mineral waters began to add medicinal and flavorful herbs to unflavored mineral water. They used birch bark, dandelion, sarsaparilla, and fruit extracts.
So this kind of drink is benefitial to health from my point of view .

I think that the sugar is not the biggest problem in this case. Think about all the emulgators (E320, E500,…). They are causing bigger damage to you than “just” sugar!

Well, to say the truth, i knew some of these info but haven’t quit drinking Coca-Cola or Pepsi. It’s just that i can’t stay without drinking. The biggest concern of mine is the high amount of sugar they pour in. It can be really unhealthy. But i guess these pop are as addictive as alcohol and drugs.

Yes, that doesn’t suprise me, and
even the ones that have zero or low sugar, contain sweetners which are not too healthy either.
Luckily my kids do not like fizzy drinks and would rather drink water. It certainly makes you think

hey, i dont think giving up soft drinks could be possible, they are now a part of our ife, i hope we should try to reduce this as much as possible

To add few new things from history.
Another term in the U.S. is “soft drink” for soda. I can’t remember what we called it in West Virginia — “pop” maybe. It seems to me that here in central Kentucky most people just say, “I’m getting a ‘drink.’” Or they say “I’m getting a coke” whether it’s an actual Coke product or not.

Like the above poster said, drinking pop is a part of our daily lives now, which makes it hard to completely quit (I know it is for me!) But this should really make people think of healthier alternatives such as water and fruit juice. If 1/3 of every can of pop is filled with just sugar, imagine how much sugar you intake if you drink 3-4 cans a day.

POP?? Pop is addictive.. Almost everyday, i drink coke once or twice
.. Especially when I feel tired or sleepy.. After drinking, I will feel more energetic and it’s proven!!.. But I know it’s not that healthy…
There are so many types of POP drinks but all are just the same.. They are not healthy; so drink more plain water to lead a healthy life..
